When we started planning our family trip to the Amalfi Coast, I knew I needed to start by finding a hotel. I wanted to stay in Positano, which has a reputation as the most beautiful village on the Amalfi Coast but is also known as a playground of the rich and famous, and has many ultra-luxury hotels that were way out of our price range.
Fortunately, I stumbled upon Hotel Punta Regina, an upscale boutique hotel with only 18 rooms that welcomes kids, and has an affordable price point (by Positano standards, anyway).
Hotel Punta Regina has a great location on Positano’s main street about half a mile from the port area and main Positano beach. This means that it’s high enough up for great views of the coastline and a bit removed from the crowds in “downtown” Positano (which gets very busy in summer), but close enough that you can go back and forth to the beach pretty easily.
We had a deluxe double room with balcony, which was spacious and comfortable for our family of three. It rained for most of our time in Positano, so we didn’t get to spend as much time as we would have liked on the balcony, but the views were lovely and there was comfortable seating.
The highlight of Hotel Punta Regina is the rooftop terrace with beautiful views of the coastline and an infinity pool overlooking the sea. The pool isn’t heated and was a bit chilly in early May, but we managed to swim a couple times, to the delight of our five year old, and it will be a wonderful escape from the heat if you’re visiting Positano during the summer high season.
The breakfast room is also on the roof, and we appreciated that there’s an overhang so we could eat al fresco even on rainy days. Breakfast (which is included in room rates) is fresh and delicious with a good variety of eggs, cheese, meats, fruit and pastries. Everyone at the hotel was friendly, but we felt especially welcomed by the breakfast staff, who doted on our five year old.
Because of the crummy weather during our trip, we ended up spending more time at the hotel than we normally would, and we appreciated the lovely views and comfortable amenities at Hotel Punta Regina. I recommend it to anyone looking for family-friendly lodging on the Amalfi Coast.
