My Travel Bucket List (est. 2015)

1. Visit Antarctica (this one has been the #1 thing on my list for a LONG time!)

2. See polar bears in the wild

3. Hug an elephant Elephant Nature Park near Chiang Mai, Thailand; May 2016

4. Go on (photo) safari in Africa

5. Cage dive with great white sharks After meeting and talking to a shark biologist, I’ve decided to remove this from my bucket list for ethical reasons. If/when I ever go to South Africa (the most popular place for this activity), I plan to write more in-depth about why. In the meantime, I’ve added as #26 an encounter with another big fish – manta rays! No chumming involved.

6. See the Taj Mahal

7. See the Northern Lights

8. Swim with whale sharks Quintana Roo, Mexico; July 2016

9. Visit all 50 states

10. Trek to Mt. Everest base camp

11. Go to the bottom of the Grand Canyon on a mule

12. Set foot in the Arctic Circle

13. Visit every National Park in the US (including far-flung American Samoa!).

14. Do a food-centered tour through France and/or Italy

15. Travel on a round-the-world airplane ticket

16. Go on a luxury cruise (my opinion of cruises is mixed at best but I have never gone on a luxury line)

20. Stay in an all-inclusive resort Live Aqua Resort, Cancún, Mexico; July 2016

21. Visit Havana, Cuba (hopefully soon, before there is a Starbucks on every corner!) Dec. 2016

22.  Do a multi-day hiking trip in the Alps

23. Spend a week on a sailboat in the Caribbean

24. Snorkel or scuba dive in the Indian Ocean Phi Phi Islands, Thailand; May 2016 (Although there are many countries in the Indian Ocean with great snorkeling that still remain on my to-visit list: the Maldives, the Seychelles and Indonesia, to name a few.)

25. Eat sushi in Japan

26. Swim with manta rays Kona, Hawaii; January 2019
