I think it’s safe to say that winter has officially arrived in our part of Indiana (those four inches of snow dumped on us last weekend were a pretty clear sign), but I’m still marveling about how beautiful this fall was. Apparently the foliage wasn’t as good as normal, thanks to a “drought” we’re having (the Californian in me rolled my eyes hard at this), but you could have fooled me. It seemed like everywhere I turned, the trees were beautiful hues of red, yellow and orange.
Between setting up a new house and acclimating to a new city, we didn’t do much travel, even locally, this fall, but we did manage to spend a day in late October driving a couple hours south to Brown County State Park, supposedly one of the best places in Indiana to see fall foliage. Although it was peak foliage season up here, we were a little early for the fall color down there, but we still enjoyed a beautiful day exploring the park.
After stopping at the entrance to pay our fee ($7 Indiana residents, $9 out of state), we came upon a nice scenic overlook at Hesitation Point.
Hiking is one of my favorite ways to explore a state park, so we headed to Ogle Lake to hike trail #7, a moderate 1.5 mile loop around the lake. The trail was pretty easy under foot, but it was a nice way to get our heart rates up while enjoying views of the lake.
Brown County State Park is totally dog-friendly (pets allowed on all trails on a leash) and Dancer enjoyed herself very much!
On the way out of the park, we drove through this lovely natural archway.
Brown County, Indiana is also famous for its covered bridges so before leaving the area we stopped at the Bean Blossom Bridge.
Although I’m sure our flying visit didn’t do Brown County justice, it was a great introduction to a lovely corner of our new home state that we look forward to visiting again soon!
