Princess Makeover at Sea: A Visit to Disney Cruise Line’s Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique

One of the highlights of our recent Disney cruise for my 7 year old was her princess makeover at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, the onboard salon that transforms children ages 3-12 into princesses, knights or pirates. While the cruise line salon is very similar in many ways to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique experience at Disneyland and Disney World, there are some subtle differences. Read on for everything you need to know about visiting Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique on your Disney cruise.

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique appointments are by reservation only on Disney Cruise Line (unlike in the parks, where they take walk-ins). You’ll book this when your onboard activity booking window opens, which is 75 days before your cruise for first-time guests. If you don’t get an appointment at this time, check with Guest Services as soon as you board the ship because they usually reserve some spots for onboard bookings. If you’re able to choose what time your appointment is, I recommend late morning or early afternoon, so you have time for water fun in the morning, but plenty of time to explore the ship and meet characters after the makeover.

There are two basic options for the princess makeover. With the cheaper option, you supply your own dress, and the makeover package includes hairstyling, make-up, and a souvenir t-shirt and bag. Or you can pay about $100 more to pick out your princess dress in the boutique, which comes with coordinating accessories like a wand, necklace and tiara (shoes are extra) and everything from the cheaper package except the t-shirt. Here’s the full list of experiences you can choose from, with prices (current as of 2025). It’s not listed on this sheet, but there are also pirate makeovers available on the cruise’s Pirate Night.

After you check-in at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and wait your turn to be called, a “Fairy Godmother in Training” will help you pick out your dress, if that’s part of your package. There seemed to be quite a bit of variation in how involved they were; ours just kind of pointed at the dresses and said “pick one,” but I saw some other Fairy Godmothers making the experience a bit more magical. The boutique stocks a solid assortment of classic princess dresses including Cinderella, Belle, Ariel, Jasmine, Tiana, Rapunzel, Anna and Elsa, but they’re also missing some pretty big names including Moana, Mulan, Maribel and Snow White. The theme parks have a much bigger dress selection. Disney Cruise Line does have Captain Mickey and Minnie outfits for little ones who aren’t so into princesses or knights, and those are super cute and understandably a cruise exclusive.

After this, your princess- or knight-to-be will go into a changing room to change into the outfit you’ve purchased or brought from home. This part of the experience is more interactive in the theme parks, with a “magic” mirror. On the cruise ships, it’s just a normal changing room. Once you’re done changing, your child will head to a chair for the makeover part, and if they’re getting a princess makeover, they’ll pick out their hairstyle from the menu below. There are two classic bun styles, two updos with flower crowns and two styles that involve flower crowns and a braid in the back with a piece of fake brightly colored hair.

The actual princess makeover is pretty quick – they’ll do your daughter’s chosen hairstyle, apply a little makeup and quickly paint her nails, before giving her a sprinkling of “pixie dust” (hair glitter), putting on the princess sash and spinning her around for the final reveal in the mirror.

You get to take home all the beauty products used, plus some additional jewelry, in a commemorative bag, and the bag on DCL is a really cute sequined Mickey backpack with a princess crown. I believe this bag is a cruise line exclusive; friends just did Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at Walt Disney World and got a much simpler drawstring tote bag. This backpack is the kind of thing that would retail for at least $50 in the cruise gift shop, so it really increases the value of the experience.

While Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is an expensive experience, it really was the highlight of the cruise for our 7 year old. I enjoyed doing it on the cruise ship where the pace was more relaxed and it didn’t feel like we were missing out on other things by taking the time for it, and the Disney Cruise Line souvenir bag is much nicer. On the other hand, if a bigger costume selection and a more interactive experience are a priority, you may find better value from doing it at the parks.
