My family recently spent two days in Seville, Spain and fell in love with this beautiful European city with a bit of Arabic flair. We stayed at Hotel Amadeus in the Santa Cruz neighborhood, the Old Town of Seville, which is the perfect area to stay in for a quick visit like ours.
Hotel Amadeus is tucked in a small alleyway, about half a kilometer (or a 5-10 minute walk) from Seville’s biggest tourist attractions: the Royal Alcazar and the Cathedral with its famous Giralda (Bell Tower). This neighborhood is so charming and is well worth spending some time exploring, even apart from the Alcazar and Giralda.
The public areas of the family-run hotel are beautifully designed, with a musical theme in honor of the hotel’s namesake and tiles that are a nod to Seville’s Moorish history.
We had a junior suite and it was plenty spacious for our family of three, which is not always something you can count on in Europe. The room came with three separate twin beds, so our child wasn’t stuck on a sofa or cot. We appreciated the small touches, like a bathrobe and slippers and turn down chocolates every night.
One major draw of Hotel Amadeus is their rooftop terrace which offers lovely views of the city of Seville and the Giralda, and has seating areas, a bar and a couple of plunge pools. The pools are not heated, so although we did go swimming briefly during our March visit, we didn’t stay in for long. I’m sure it would be a welcome respite from the heat in the summer though.
The sunset views from the roof aren’t too shabby either.
Breakfast was not included with our stay, but was available for a reasonable price (less than €15 in 2023) and I had it one day. You can take breakfast inside or outside in a charming courtyard, and it includes pastries, a boiled egg, fruit, yogurt, coffee and fresh-squeezed orange juice made from those signature Seville oranges. It’s not really all you can eat, although they did oblige my request for another croissant.
Hotel Amadeus is a great place to stay when visiting Seville, especially if you’re traveling with kids and looking for a bit more space. It’s chic, comfortable and has a great location in the heart of the city, close to all the major highlights, with a friendly staff who will make you feel at home.
